The Human Rights Legal Support Centre offers human rights legal services to individuals throughout Ontario who have experienced discrimination contrary to the Ontario Human Rights Code. Our services may include legal assistance in filing applications at the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, and legal representation at mediations and hearings.

The Human Rights Support Legal Centre (the Centre) is an independent agency funded by the Ontario Government through the Ministry of the Attorney General. The Legal Centre operates under the direction of a board of directors appointed by Lieutenant Governor in Council.

The Centre can help you:

  • Resolve a dispute involving your rights under the Human Rights Code
  • File an application to the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario
  • Take your application to mediation or at a hearing before the Tribunal
  • Enforce an Order of the Tribunal if the Tribunal finds that you have experienced discrimination

Legal services also include representation provided on a stage-by-stage basis – for settlement negotiations, for filing, for mediation and for the hearing. This allows us to match the level and extent of service at each stage to a number of factors including the needs of the individual, the merits of the claim and the complexity of the evidentiary and legal issues.

You have the right to be free from discrimination and harassment in your job, facilities and services (shops, restaurants, transit, hospitals, schools and other public places), housing, contracts, and membership in unions or vocational associations.

The Centre has partnerships with lawyers, legal clinics and other community-based service partners in communities across Ontario. We will make every effort to provide an appropriate service to you in your community.
